If you’re looking for some hot deals to get started on your Christmas shopping, you might want to head to the mall this weekend. Columbus Day weekend hasn’t always been a time of great sales; however, this year is different, according to the CBS News Early Show‘s financial contributor. With the unemployment rates through the roof and a tough economy for retailers, great sales are beginning for the 2009 holiday season this month.
Clothing Discounts: There are especially good deals on clothes this weekend. Macy’s is offering up to 60 percent off and 25 percent off clearance items. Save tons on women’s, men’s and kids clothing, shoes and non-clothing items as well. At Ann Taylor all sale items are an additional 40 percent off and at Kenneth Cole you’ll see 30 percent off. Toys: Wal-Mart announced that it is starting off the season strong with a list of 100 toys for $10. Target has $5 Barbies and Sears and Kmart opened “Christmas Lane” this summer with hot deals.

Electronics: What used to be tough to find is again a hot item with a discount of $50. The Nintendo Wii was $250, but is now $200. In addition to game systems, televisions are on sale. A flat screen from Toshiba now retails for $380 down from $600. hhGregg has announced deals on electronics and appliances.
Household Items: Head over to Sears this weekend and 20 percent off on appliances Oct. 8-13. Also save on vacuums, tools and mattresses. For bath needs, Bath & Body Works is having a sale this weekend. All signature collection products are buy 3 get 3 free and wallflowers are only $6.
