Real Simple‘s last focus for “How to Save On…” is apparel. Many of us love to shop, but there are things we can do to keep us from going deep into debt when taking a fun trip to the mall for some clothes.
According to the article, purchasing clothes can cost $1,800 annually. Here are some tips:
Use your AAA membership card.
Not only can you get assistance on the road, but use your card and you can get 15 percent off apparel. AAA offers discounts at stores such as Target, New York & Company and others. Visit AAA’s website for more details.
Shop the middleman.
Head into your favorite department store before stepping foot in a label’s own store. Brand names often go on sale at department stores first and at a bigger discount.
Get secret deals.
Shop online and you can find unadvertised rush sales to e-mail subscribers. Some of those stores include Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. If you sign up, you can also get friends and family promotions too.
Cash out.
We’re all quick to pull out our credit cards, but try paying cash next time. Some stores, especially independent ones, will offer you a discount if you pay cash. Ask the manager before you pay.
There are so many little things that can be done to save on apparel, food, health care, entertainment, the home and transportation. Real Simple has outlined some ideas. Now you just have to try some of them out.
