Low Cost Meals

Saving money is not always easy. Sometimes it feels like you have cut your budget as much as it can be cut and there STILL isn’t enough to go around. Take a few hours to review your pantry and your grocery spending and you might be surprised to find that you can cut what you need from this line item.

    1. Make your own pancake mix. Use the all purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and sugar that you have in your pantry to make up some instant pancake mix. Alton Brown has a great recipe on his site, but you can search the internet for one that works for you.

    2. Gumbo is a great way to use up your leftovers or mixed ingredient in the pantry and freezer. The only rule of thumb for gumbo is that it needs to have rice and needs to be thickened with something. Add beans, meat, or vegetables and let them cook in a crock pot to really blend the flavors.

    3. Breakfast makes a great meal any time of the day – and it’s one of the least expensive meals to eat. Use up left over bread to make some great French toast or cook a quiche.

The key to saving money in anything is to use what you have. Finding creative recipes for the items in your freezer and pantry will help you cut down on the costs that you have for groceries.
