I think the number one way to save money is to not spend money on interest. I believe most Americans are spending more money on interest payments for debt than anything else. Just manage your debt to the point you are living well within your means and it is amazing at how much money people could save. Just think if they were able to invest the money they would be spending on interest. Most could retire a lot more comfortably.

This post has been featured on the <a href="http://retire-at-40.blogspot.com/2008/12/89th-carnival-of-money-stories.html" rel="nofollow">89th Carnival of Money Stories at Retire at 40</a>.

Great list. Makes us think about what extra we can do to minimise our costs.

Hi,

Found your site via the Rich Life Carnival.

Great tips! Especially the one about the Points/Rewards programs. I have that through National City, and just got $100 worth of gift cards to Target.
People underestimate how much those reward programs pay off!

CVS and Walgreens is another way people can save big; their rewards programs are pretty amazing.

Thanks for the great article!
