Free Books for Kids with Summer Reading Programs

Summer is approaching at that means it’s time to start thinking about how you’ll keep your kids busy over the next three months. Help them spend their summer wisely by joining a summer reading program. Here are a few of the available summer reading programs that offer free books when kids read!

Borders: Kids 12 and under are invited to participate in the Borders Summer Reading Double Dog Dare. Download the printable Double-Dog Dare form and keep track of the books your child reads. Once they read ten books, bring in the completed form to any Borders location and they’ll get a free book.

Barnes and Noble: Download the Passport to Summer Reading form and track the books your kids read. Once they’ve completed eight books, take the completed form into a Barnes and Noble store and they’ll receive a free book. There’s also reading activity kits you can download to help get your children inspired to read.

Half Price Books: The Half Price Books summer reading program runs through the months of June and July. For every week your child reads 15 minutes a day they’ll earn a $3 Half Price Books shopping card to use in the store.

Scholastic Summer Reading:
Participate in the Scholastic Summer Challenge for a chance at bragging rights. The top 20 schools that read the most during the summer will appear in the “Scholastic Book of World Records” 2011 edition.
