Good Deals: How Bargain Hunting Can Be About Helping Others

I’m always on the lookout for a good deal. I especially love freebies. I mean who doesn’t love free toothpaste, soap and food? I recently opened my pantry and bathroom closet to discover that I have way too much stuff. I mean it will take me months, if not years to use up some of the freebies I’ve stockpiled. It occurred to me that other people need this way more than I do.

I kept an extra tube of toothpaste and a few bars of soap, but then I bagged up the rest and took it to Miracle Hill, a local ministry where I live. It wasn’t much– 24 bars of soap, three tubes of toothpaste, two toothbrushes and a nail clipper, but it was all stuff I got completely free using coupons and sales.

Now my mission has expanded beyond just finding good deals for my family. We can only use so much, but my local homeless shelter or orphanage can always use more. So now when I flip through the ads I’m not just thinking about us– I’m thinking bigger. This week I picked up free body wash, toothpaste and deodorant which will all be taken to Miracle Hill. The only thing it cost me is a little time.

I’m not telling you this to brag, but I am hoping that you will start thinking bigger with your bargain hunting. Who can you help? This is an easy way to use your shopping skills to glorify God and bless others. It’s OK to keep a few extras for your family, but remember– good deals will always come around. Maybe there’s someone that needs what you have right now.
