Twitter Tuesday Profile: @Keepinitcheap

This week’s Twitter Tuesday Profile focuses on Shasta of Mobile, Alabama. Although she’s new to Twitter, she’s got a lot of great information to share. She Tweets from @Keepinitcheap and blogs at Faithfullyfrugal-and-free.com. Shasta is a wife and mother of four– two boys and two girls. She’s got great ideas for saving money and sticking to her impressive New Year’s Resolutions.

OODC: Shasta, how did you get started blogging and tweeting?
@Keepinitcheap: I started blogging a few years ago as a way to share what my children were doing with everyone in our family. I started Faithfully Frugal after I joined Financial Peace University (a Dave Ransey Class our church started). I wanted to post coupons to share with my classmates. A few weeks into the class we learned about a local coupon mom/blogger who taught coupon classes and her blog really inspired me to branch out into full-time blogging. I just started Tweeting about 2 weeks ago and am still in the process of learning how it all works!

OODC:You made a goal of spending just $30 a week on groceries for your family of six this year. How will you do it?
@Keepinitcheap:I plan to meet my goal by only buying items that are on sale, and using coupons on those sale items! It really doesn’t sound like much but believe me it can transform your grocery budget. Let me give you an example. This week I will go grocery shopping at Publix, I will buy 2 Yoplait Fiber One Yogurt 4-pks. They are buy 1 get 1 free and the cost is $2.50. Now that in itself is a good deal but if I use 2- $1 off coupons, I am now getting 2 packs of yogurt for only $.25 each!

The next step is to stockpile. When I can buy a box of Betty Crocker potatoes for $.15 a box I usually buy about 8 boxes. I do this with all really great deals that way I have enough to last me until it goes on sale again.

OODC:You regularly list items that can be picked up at your Publix grocery store for less than $1. Does it ever amaze you what a dollar can still buy?
@Keepinitcheap:Yes, that is why I love to blog these deals! It amazes me what a little planning can do! I just want to shout it from the roof-tops “Stop wasting your money, when you can get things so much cheaper if you watch the sales and available coupons”. I posted one Publx trip where I only spent $1.14, and I think I had 20 items or more!

OODC:What do you hope people get out of your Tweets and blog posts?
@Keepinitcheap:If I could help just one family shrink their grocery budget I would feel like my time has been well spent!

OODC:Who are some of your favorite money tweeters?
@Keepinitcheap:I love iheartpublix and couponkim.
