Today’s Twitter Tuesday Profile is all about Target. Yep, the store where all the workers are wearing red shirts and Kerry, a stay-at-home mom in St. Lucie, Florida finds outstanding deals. She’s been married for 11 years and has a four-year-old son. She Tweets about Target from her account @TotallyTarget and blogs about the store at TotallyTarget.com. Today Kerry is sharing some of her secrets about how to get more red for less green.
OODC: How did you get started blogging and tweeting?
@TotallyTarget: I have been posting & passing on some deals on 2 blogs (iheartsavingmoney.com & iheartpublix.com) run by my good friend Michelle for a while now. This gave me a little know-how when it came to starting my own. I really enjoy one-store blogs- where everything is covered and I couldn’t find one that covered Target really in-depth, so I decided to start one. I got a lot of support and encouragement from Michelle, and that’s really what allowed me to follow it through. As far as Twitter goes- I am new to Twitter- but think it is a great way for people to get my deals.
OODC:Have you always loved Target?
@TotallyTarget:I have always been a fan of Target- I actually love their clothes and home goods and I enjoy taking advantage of their gift card deals. But I think what really got me hooked was when they started offering their Low Price Promise- basically a Price Matching policy that allows me to bring in any competitor’s ad and they will match the price.
OODC:What are your best tips for finding great deals at Target?
@TotallyTarget:Know your store’s clearance schedule. It can vary from store to store- so just ask which departments are marked down on which days. Also be sure to take advantage of their coupon stacking policy- shoppers can use 1 target coupon AND 1 Manufacturer’s coupon per item. You can print many of their store coupons on line at Target.com and I offer match-ups of any manufacturer coupons to go with the Target coupons on my site. Also take advantage of their gift card deals they offer weekly for different products. You are awarded a gift card for buying these specific items. Usually they coincide with a sale price, and if you use coupons you can really maximize your savings. And always shop the sales and price cuts with coupons to get the most for your money.
OODC:Are you as passionate about other stores as you are about Target?
@TotallyTarget:While I do love Target- I do shop elsewhere. Other than Target I would say I enjoy finding great deals at CVS, Walgreens and Publix the most.
OODC:What do you hope people get out of your Tweets and blog posts?
@TotallyTarget:I hope that I help more and more people to become smarter shoppers and save lots of money! In such tough economic times- I really believe what you spend is almost as important as what you earn. With less money going out, it makes it much easier when there is less coming in. I think a lot of people dismiss couponing and shopping sales to be more trouble than it’s worth- and I would like to change that way of thinking. If I post most of the information for you- what sales and gift card deals are going on and what coupons are available to match those deals- I am hoping people find it easier to tackle saving money and will stick with it.
OODC:What would you say to one of those people who thinks couponing is more trouble than it’s worth?
@TotallyTarget:I think that for those just starting out on the road to smarter shopping- I would like to offer some words of encouragement, and to tell you to give it a chance to see the full benefit. It takes time to build up a good coupon collection and adjust to all the lingo and get better at it. But it gets easier over time and you will see that the reward truly will become worth the effort you put into it.
