Wood Painted Like an iPad Earns Scammers $180
Fake Apple products have been in the news lately, but usually it’s tough to tell the difference between what is real and what’s not. Unfortunately for an Upstate, South Carolina woman that is not the case. According to media reports 22-year-old Ashley McDowell stopped at McDonald’s to get some food around 10pm. The young woman may have been looking for a cheap snack, but she ended up buying what she thought was a cheap iPad.
Two men approached her in the fast food joint parking lot. They showed her a new iPad and said they had several in the trunk of their car. They explained they had bought them in bulk and were selling them at a bargain price of $300. But unfortunately Ashley only had $180. The men conferred and decided that was enough. They took her money, handed her a FedEx box and everyone went their separate ways.
When Ashley got home she opened the box to find what looked like an iPad sculpture. It was a piece of wood painted black with an Apple logo on it. So far authorities have not been able to track down the two men who Ashley says were in a white Chevy Impala.
