Famous High School & College Dropouts

When I found this list of dropouts it certainly surprised me. Some of the nation’s most successful and famous didn’t even finish high school or college and still made a name for themselves. While college is still important in this day and age to land a great job, some tend to be lucky and succeed without a degree.

Bill Gates: Everyone knows this name. He’s named one of the world’s richest people year after year in Forbes magazine and co-founded Microsoft. This brainiac attended Harvard, but left before attaining his degree to start a company. He was interested in programming at a young age and took that and ran with it. It’s obviously paid off.

Ralph Lauren: This fashion icon knew he wanted to be a  millionaire when he was young. Dropping out of school at Baruch College didn’t stop him. Polo Ralph Lauren continues to  make millions.

Quentin Tarantino: This famous director quit attending high school his freshman year and attended acting school. Soon after that he began a successful career as a director of such movies as Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs.

Steve Jobs: Think of the iPhone, Apple computers etc. This guy is the CEO of Apple Inc. and only attended college for one semester. A couple of years ago he was named the most powerful business man by Fortune Magazine.

Kirk Kerkorian: Las Vegas is this man’s fortune. He is buying and developing properties in the city with large stakes in hotels such as the Bellagio, MGM Grand and New York-New York. And he left school in 8th grade.

Dave Thomas: The founder of Wendy’s fast food chain dropped out of high school to work in the restaurant business. Now Wendy’s is one of the largest burger chains. He did, however, want to set a good example and went back to earn his GED.

Peter Jennings: This famous television broadcaster failed 10th grade and dropped out of school. He became host of a children’s program and then went on to become one of the news anchors for World News Tonight.

Sean Connery: He’s one of the most famous Oscar-winning actors and dropped out to work full-time. He was in the Royal Navy, but was released due to medical issues. After that  he had many odd jobs such as a milkman, bricklayer and a coffin polisher before making it big.
